Town Travel League
Brookline Travel Basketball is a competitive league for boys (grades 4 - 8) and girls (grades 4 - 8) living in/ attending school in Brookline. The Travel program is led by volunteer (typically parent) coaches and endeavors to provide an enhanced basketball experience focused on player development, building a competitive team spirit, and sportsmanship. Teams play in the Metrowest Basketball League, which serves dozens of towns and hundreds of teams in Greater Boston/Eastern Massachusetts.
Team placements are determined by grade level. Not every player who attends the tryouts is guaranteed to make a roster and there may be cuts. The approach to team selection is typically based on skill level creating A and B teams (depending on participation) at a given grade level. See our Tryouts page for more details.
Time commitment: Participants are required to make a strong commitment to the program. Each team will have two 90-minute weeknight practices and one League game typically on Sundays as part of a 12-game schedule. Practices begin in late-October/early-November and the regular season runs from the beginning of December through the end of February/beginning of March, followed immediately by playoffs.
At the discretion of individual team coaches, teams may also participate in pre-season and holiday tournaments and schedule non-league games in addition to the league schedule. These additional events are optional elements of the program.
This year's Metrowest League schedule will likely begin Sunday 12/08/2024. Note: The Metrowest League does schedule games on the Sundays around February school vacation week and the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, so please factor that into your planning.
Cost: If selected for a Travel team the program registration cost is $185. The program has new uniforms this year supplied by New Balance. Uniform fees are additional.
Registration is administered by the Town of Brookline Recreation Department.
